WHERE'S THE PARK?
The residents of Chesapeake, VA are on a mission! And we are gaining momentum - so please continue to support this extremely important cause.
Many departments within the City of Chesapeake are in support of the DEEP CREEK PARK and would like to remind the citizens to continue to stand behind this park effort.
If you do not know much about this proposed project, we have lots of information that we would like to share with you.
FACTS & FICTION:
(FACT) In 1995 the City purchased 225 acres off of Route 17 (next to Sawyers Mill) with the plans to develop a District Wide park which will service the entire city of Chesapeake and will include many ammenities.
(FACT) A Master Plan was developed in 1998 at a cost of $178,600. The plan included numerous multi-use sports fields for soccer, football, field hockey. It also included 7 tennis courts, 4 basketball courts, 3 volleyball courts, 1 roller hockey arena, multiple picnic area's, a family park area, community center, multiple playgrounds, 6 baseball fields, lawn games area, environmental education area, plentiful walking trails, ample parking & several water features.
(FICTION) The Plan design is set & can not be altered.
(FACT) The Plan design will be re-done to meet current citizen needs! Meaning each citizen will have the opportunity to have input on things they would like to see in this community park.
***UPDATE!!*** We are excited to announce the FIRST Public Hearing for the Park! Wednesday October 8th @ Hugo Owens Middle School - 5:00 - 7:00pm. Please take the time to come out & let the people in charge of planning know what YOU would like to see included in the new park!
(FACT) We need your help! Please email citymanager@cityofchesapeake.net and council@cityofchesapeake.net and tell them why you support the funding of Deep Creek Park!
(FICTION) This park was already funded
(FACT) This park was included in the Capital Improvement Budget of 1996 for development of Phase I, but it was retracted.
(FACT) City Council will vote in May of 2008 whether or not to include funding of Phase I in the current budget. Please help us by asking Council & the City Manager to approve funding for Phase I this May. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR CITY!
***UPDATE!!***
(FACT) Thanks to the tremendous outpouring of support for this project, the City Manager did include this project in the budget for 2008/2009 and City Council has approved Phase One funding for the Park!
(FACT) We have a new City Council - be sure to let them know that continuing to support this project is what the City of Chesapeake needs. We do not want to find this project on the back burner again - please continue to have a dialogue with your City Council.
